C e l es ti a l N o n e s u ch. A breathtaking signed antique Japanese Meiji era masterwork Shibayama panel. The incredibly detailed inlaid scene features a Cherry Tree with a hawk or other type of Bird of Prey perched on the branch. To the right of the hawk, a small bird flees, and a bee approaches to investigate the blossoms.
Behind the beautiful carvings, a rarely seen accent, a rich deep blue lacquer varnish gives the scene the appearance of a moonlit night or twilight. Good condition with no detectable repairs. There are some areas of cracks, including in the trunk of the tree as well as the hawk, as well as some minor areas of loss inlay. The left leg of the hawk rises off of the panel itself, it's uncertain if this is some type of imperfection, or if the artist simply crated depth in the carving. The panel has some minor gaps in-between itself and the frame. There is some light surface damage across the lacquer, including scuffs, scratches, minor drying and shrinkage cracks. Exhibits signs of age such as surface wear and weathering. As they are part of the description, please enlarge all photographs to better ascertain details and condition.
