Massive rare brazier wooden hook Meji period, 19th c GG28
Rare and massive brazier hook. Such hooks were traditionally used in wealthy farmers houses and were suspended from the ceiling over the traditional iron hearth. Beautifully carved from a solid piece of Keyaki wood (japanese zelkova) , perhaps most desirable hard wood in Japan, known for its strength and beautiful grain. A very beautiful patination on wood surface developed over the years of usage and constant smoke from the hearth. Age: Edo-Meji period , 19 th century. 41cm (16inch), Thickness is 13cm (5inch). Weight:11.6kg (25.5lb). Good condition with patination and some minor abrasions due of age. As you see in the photos. These charges are the buyers responsibility.
