Excellent Edo period Tsuba with rare inscription. This outstanding Tsuba is from my personal collection. Signed Shoami Shigekatsu oite tan tetsu kore wo saku. This translates as Shigekatsu from the Shoami school made this using foreign steel. Foreign steel was highly prized in japan at this time. The iron quality is superb and it has traces of gold on the faces. This would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
