Antique Japanese Late Meiji period circa 1910 Rare, Amusing and rather unusual hand painted Earthenware/pottery figure of a rather plump Bald Monk or Buddha (note large ears) dressed in traditional'Gi' including Obi. The Monk is captured in mid stride, his clothes barely fitting and looking quite happy about it. Nicely detailed including lifelike hands, the figure shows some loss and rubbing of paint work from old age but is without cracks, chips or repairs. The Figure stands 22 cm tall and has a maximum width and breadth of 25 cm and 16 cm respectively. The figure appears to be an unsigned piece.
