A RARE Japanese set of 5 Negoro Lacquer Plates 5.75 wide A/F
Please read the whole description! On offer is a set of 5 Japanese Negoro Lacquered Plates. They are 5.75" long/wide and 1.5" tall (with some slight variations). Crafted during the middle Edo period (18th century).

Negoro lacquer originates from the Negoro temple. It is a rare form of lacquer and highly sought after by collectors.

It is quite expensive as well. A quick Google search will reveal such examples... Recently sourced from a very reputable dealer in Japan. A serious collectors' set for sure! Condition Report : This set is in reasonable /fair condition.

Unfortunately, there are many flaws. There are many dings here and there alongside cracks.

There are repairs as well, which include the Negoro lacquer. There is further lacquer loss as well. I have depicted some, but I cannot show them all, as there is a limit of 12 photos. Please message me if you need more photos. But it cannot be helped as this is an old set, and most old lacquer work has serious faults. And those flaws don't affect the integrity of the plates. They can be used for decorative purposes. Remarks: I have priced them accordingly, taking into account their condition.

Pristine examples even from the middle Edo period sell for a much higher price. If you don't mind those flaws, you can get an entire set for a very reasonable price.

A pristine such set would be around the 1K mark. I very much promise you that.

This set is the only such set I have sourced the last 1.5 years.. Should you need any additional info, please do not hesitate to ask me any questions.

I would be very happy to assist you. Please study the photos provided as they form part of the description. Should you need more photos I would be very happy to provide you with them. What you see is what you get!
