This is a rare, spectacular set of Japanese 19th century Hirado ware porcelain. We have never seen this Victorian style tea set in Hiraldo ware - we suspect it was commissioned as this is clearly a master craftsman who designed and painted (blue under glaze) these pieces. We have also not seen this design in any Hirado ware - if you look at the bottom of each piece you will see an applied lotus flower design that continues throughout the construction of each piece. The rims appear as if the edges of lotus flower and you can see the fine veining of the flower motif on the sides of each piece. Each piece also contains a chrysanthemum and butterfly painted design along with the appliques (never seen this many applied pieces on Hirado ware).
The teapot measures 8 3/4" tall; the lidded sugar jar is 5" tall, the creamer is 5 3/8 tall. Please read condition report and see photos.
