Exceptional antique Japanese porcelain statue of Fukurokuju. The fantastic statue is made of porcelain and ceramic.
The statue is beautifully handmade with a wonderful face of the god. He is carrying a gnarled staff in one hand and a scroll in another. The large face and hands are glazed in a light brown colour. The robe, the staff, the shoes and the scroll are hand painted in blue and white under glaze. His robe is hand painted with stylised dragons, lucky coins and clouds. Fukurokuju is the God of wealth, happiness and longevity. Represented with an elongated forehead and a long beard, he is usually represented in the customary clothes of a Chinese scholar. Bought this wonderful statue in Tokyo when I was living there in the 1970s. He came from an antique shop near the Royal Palace. He survived several earthquakes in Japan. He was then brought to Hong Kong, Thailand and back in Australia since year 2000. He is very rare and I don't think you can find one easily especially outside of Japan.
Measurement: 19 cm H x 13 cm W x 13.5 L. The battery is there for size comparison only.
It has nothing to do with the item. Most of my collection is one of a kind. I bought the items because I liked it for myself.
They were never intended to be resold. Each item has a story and when possible I hand carried in my luggage from all over the world to bring back to Australia. Some of the items have travelled a long way away and some of the items has been with me for 65 years. Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favourites list.
