A rare Japanese Edo Period scroll painting Buddha, Chinese, Tibetan, Hokusai
This is an exquisite and I believe very rare Japanese Edo period scroll from my private collection, depicting the Nigh Parade of One Hundred Demons. A highly comparable piece can be found in the Met in New York. The scroll measures 285 cm x 35.5 cm and has been folded into a book size format, leaving creases throughout. Because of this the scroll is in fairly fragile condition with the illustrations (which are each painted on separate thin pieces of paper) becoming loose and peeling back from the surface of the scroll. I have not attempted to stick back, or otherwise repair, but could be easily done in the right hands. Nonetheless, the scroll is in tact and I believe complete. It is absolutely fantastic and full of drama and humour. The item "A rare Japanese Edo Period scroll painting Buddha, Chinese, Tibetan, Hokusai" is in sale since Monday, December 28, 2020.
